Scapula Projection



AP Projection


  1. Patient in upright position;
  2. Abduction of the arm;
  3. Rotate slightly (20-25º) toward the affected side.

Central ray perpendicular to the mid scapular and 5 cm inferior to the coracoid process.
Respiration: Suspended.



Evaluation Criteria:

  • Lateral portion of the scapula free of superimposed from the ribs;
  • Visualization of the acromion process and inferior angle;
  • Appropriate exposure values (visualization of the all bony trabeculation and soft tissue).



Scapular Y



  1. Patient in upright position;
  2. Position the anterior surface in the table;
  3. Rotate the patient 70-75º in the way to the surface  of scapula it is perpendicular to the IP.

Central ray angled 15º minimum caudad to the angle supior of the scapula.
Respiration: Suspended.


Evaluation Criteria:

  • Scapula in profile;
  • Acromion free of superimposed;
  • Appropriate exposure values (visualization of the all bony trabeculation and soft tissue).
